13 AUGUST 1922: J spent the summer of ’22 appearing in a series of operas at Fontaine Ferry Park in Louisville, Kentucky. Among the productions were The Bohemian Girl, Martha, and that week’s offering, Madame Sherry. When she wasn’t rehearsing or performing on stage, she was still working!
On 13 August 1922, J and four other members of her company gave a concert on local radio station WHAS. She sang Every Little Movement (Has a Meaning All Its Own) from Madame Sherry.
WHAS officially debuted on July 18, 1922, making it the first radio station in Kentucky. J was on air a mere 26 days later. This Tennessee girl was a Kentucky radio pioneer.
